PM Narendra Modi Interviews Bill Gates on His Life and Favorite Book

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bill Gates on Friday participated in an interactive chat that was broadcast live online to the public. Prime Minister Modi shared his views on the country’s growth in AI, his thoughts on emerging technology and how AI could help improve people and their skills in the long run.

However, the tete-a-tete between Gates and Prime Minister Modi gave us a chance to get more personal information about the Microsoft founder and how he sees technology evolving in the coming years.

Gates also talked about his origins in the technology industry, which he is equally fortunate and enthusiastic about. “I’m so lucky to have been born at a time when the chip miracle happened. I received a very good education. Because I have an optimistic outlook on life, dropping out of school to take a risk didn’t seem that dangerous to me, Gates said in his interaction with PM Modi.

The Microsoft co-founder then discussed his passion for technology and what inspired him to continue in this arena. “The most exciting thing for me is seeing people use technology. When I go into the classroom and see them using it. I wanted software for my own curiosity so that I could take courses online, and seeing people empowered with these tools is very gratifying to see how technology improves people’s lives,” he adds.

Finally, PM Modi talks to him about books and asks which book influenced him the most. Gates said, “One of the books I can talk about is Steven Pinker’s The Better Angels of Our Nature. He goes on to explain why you like this book by saying, ‘If you learn about the world, you see all the flaws, like children still dying, and the more you read, you see , that things are dark. But the truth is, we’ve made incredible progress. So I felt the book captures the duality of life brilliantly.”

Bill Gates is visiting India as part of Microsoft’s 25 years in the country and also met Microsoft employees at the Hyderabad base.
